The 1960s was a transformative decade that witnessed an unprecedented wave of social and musical revolution. Often referred to as "The Swinging Sixties," this decade saw a shift in societal norms and values, as well as the emergence of ground-breaking music that continues to influence music to this day and currently. The 60s were full of change and people wanted social changes. Movements like the civil rights movement and stopping war skyrocketed in the 60s, mostly people fighting for rights. Artists were seen as powerful voices for these movements. Countercultures were born in the 60s, youth would identify with style and their taste in music, and each artist would have their separate countercultures based on the music they played. This era saw the emergence of hippie communes, peace rallies, and the pursuit of alternative lifestyles, all of which contributed to the dynamic social fabric of the time. Artists would use their platform and speak out for countercultures against all the social and political events happening. A spirit of rebellion, fuelled by a desire for freedom and equality, swept across society. Artists such as Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, Aretha Franklin, and Jimi Hendrix all sang powerful songs and profound lyrics to support movements and countercultures. Songs such as ‘Revolution’ and ‘The Times They Are A-Changin ‘’The 60s thrived in new genres and styles, it was an experimental time in history for artists. The UK and the USA were both experiencing different scenes. The UK had the mods and pop revolution, and the USA was still experiencing rock’n’roll and the hippie movement. This all changed when the British invasion happened when bands from Britain swarmed America's charts, i.e., the Beatles.
